Hyundai and Shell Base Oil Co Ltd, a joint venture company set up by Shell and Hyundai Oilbank, has established a base oil manufacturing plant in Daesan, South Korea.

The plant has the production capacity of 13 000 bpd or 650 kilotonnes of API Group II base oils per year.

The rising demand for higher quality lubricants in Asia has made the region move from Group I base oils towards Group II and Group III base oils.
