Plastics and Polymers Industry in User segment useful information

Following the last decades statistics, the plastic industry in India has taken great strides and has grown out has one of the leading sectors of a sizeable base and potential. The material is achieving significant importance in different spheres of activity and the per capita consumption is increasing at a fast pace. Processing machineries, polymer technology, expertise, and cost effective manufacturing is fast replacing the typical materials in different segments with plastics. As per the value added share, the plastic industry in India constitute 0.5% of GDP and the exports yield about 1% of the country's export. As per the data of 2006, the value of world plastic export was 375 billion$ (US).The share of India was less than 1% with exports of worth US$ 3.187 billion. The growth in export was 21% and the increased in the raw materials was from 55% to 60% of the total export of plastic products, while the export of finished plastic goods has registered a negative growth from 45% to 9%. The plastics industry in the East of India is growing at the rate of 9% per annum as against 14% of India. This eastern region especially West Bengal, shows tremendous potential of growth according to All India Plastics Manufacturers' Association (AIPMA). The eastern Indian states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Assam mark the entry of potential markets for growth of plastic Industry of India.

There have been over a dozens of initiatives highlighting the fact that the industry participants have initiated under the aegis of AIPMA. Also several initiatives nationally have been taken into consideration for recycling of plastics.
