Cyclohexanone in Basic Chemistry useful information

Product Name : Cylcohexanone

Synonyms : Oxocyclohexane; Pimelic Ketone; Ketohexamethylene; Anone; Cyclohexyl ketone; ketocyclohexane; Pimelin ketone;

About the product :
Cyclohexanone, an organic compound, is a colourless oil with an odour similar to that of peardrop sweets and acetone. It is miscible with organic solvents and often assumes a yellow colour, caused by oxidation. It is used as a solvent and in metal degreasing. It remains neutral even after being stored for a long time.

Product Identification Features:

CAS Number: 108-94-1

Production Process : Oxidation of cyclohexane in air in the presence of cobalt catalysts will lead to the production of cyclohexanone.

C6H12 + O2 → (CH2)5CO + H2O

Cyclohexanone can also be produced via partial hydrogenation of phenol

C6H5OH + 2 H2 → (CH2)5CO

In Labs, cyclohexanone is produced either from cyclohexanol by oxidation with chromic oxide, or by using sodium hypochlorite as an oxidant.

Uses :

    • Used to manufacture paints, coatings and adhesives.

    • Used to produce adipic acid.

    • Used as an addictive for electronic industry applications.

    • Used as a solvent for insecticides and fungicides.

    • Used to manufacture PVC printing inks.

    • Used as a raw material for various synthetic resins.
