By the year 2020 Indian cosmetic market is all set to expand to USD 2.5 billion, however at present it is estimated to be USD 950 million and around 40% of cosmetics that are being sold in India are imported from other countries, according to the researched report. Moreover in the South East Asian region, India becomes one of the first countries to ban the cosmetic products which are begin tested on animals after the country had announced the ban on the cosmetics that were used to test on the animals. This in fact made India the first cruelty-free cosmetics zone in the southern part of Asia.

Moreover as per the official notification the ban comes in the form of Rule 135-B which states that the imports of cosmetic that has been tested on animals are prohibited and after the initiation of Drugs and Cosmetics (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2014, no cosmetic which has been tested on animals, shall be imported into the country. Furthermore, the notification will come into effect on 13th November, 2014.

According to the sources the Indian Government in the month of June, 2014 had banned the course of action of testing the cosmetic products on animal, in this manner it send shockwaves across the industry. According to the Humane Society International, the consumer can be self-assured that any cosmetics import after the month of November, 2014 cut-off in the country will be free from the cruel practices of testing on animals.
