Reliance Industries and HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) have plans of increasing the capacity of their plants. Reliance owns two plants in Jamnagar which have the capacity to process 1.2 million bpd oil . These two plants can also convert the heaviest crude into value added products. Reliance intends to set up a fifth crude chain of 400,000 bpd, a few polymer plants and alter the fuel for 450 megawatt of a 2100 MW power plant from gas to coal.

The 450 NW power plant would require nearly 1.8 million tonnes of imported crude per year.

HMEL also wishes to raise capacity of its 180,000 bpd refinery in Bathinda to 225,000 bpd.
