Shandong based refineries in China to curtail their operations before regional summit

A regional summit will be organized in Qingdao province of China in the second week of June. The Chinese government has asked authorities to make sure air is clean with clear sky and less traffic hassle. Shandong province which has maximum number of refineries and petchem units has been asked to cut their production rate. Refineries and petrochemical plants are required not to turn on or turn off their production lines from 20 May to 20 June which means, if a line is operating it will not be allowed to shut and if a line is shut, it will not be allowed to restart

Shandong Changyi Petrochemical will reduce utilization of its 6.5m tonne/year refinery by one third from the normal 77% from this week till the end of the summit.

Tianhong Chemical and Sinopec Qingdao Petrochemical, each operates a 5m tonne/year refinery, have both been requested to cut operating rates for the summit.

Since last few years China has been working hard anti-pollution campaign and has been showing it deep concern towards environment.
