Japan’s chemical firm Mitsubishi Chemical has started the commercial production of methyl methacrylate monomer and polymethyl methacrylate plants at al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The units are in joint venture with SABIC and Saudi Methacrylated (SAMAC) in Saudi Arabia. The plants can produce 250,000 mt/year of MMA and 40,000 mt/year of PMMA and cost about $360 million to build.
