Iranian President Hassan Rouhani launched new projects to produce methanol, urea and ammonia in the southern city of Assalouyeh, will cost 1.85 billion U.S. dollars.
The Marjan petrochemical plant, with capacity to make 1.65 million mt/year of methanol, and the third phase of the Pardis petrochemical plant, with capacity to produce 1.755 million mt/year of urea and ammonia.
As per report, Pardis is the biggest urea-producing plant in the world with capacity of 5.265 million mt/year. The country's petrochemical and polymer production capacity is currently around 62.15 million mt/year. With inauguration of Pardis and Marjan petrochemical plants, this capacity will pass 65.55 million mt/year.
Two other methanol plants, Bushehr and Kaveh, are in final construction phase and will be launched before the current Iranian year ends on March 20.
As per report, the projects in Assalouyeh are the signs of Iran's progress, and the plants have created more than 1,300 direct jobs and are going to help the country reap billions of dollars in revenue.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Namdar Zangeneh said 85 percent of the funding in the projects came in the form of foreign financing.
